Breeds that you absolutely HATE

I always hate these threads. It's kinda like starting a thread about which race is the ugliest, meanist, flightiest, or whose children are the ugliest .. LOL

I don't HATE any of them, but I'm not interested in owning anything

Frizzley, sizzley, drizzley ....

or

Silkie, crestedy, polishy ...

I guess I want my chickens to look like chickens .. LOL

To each their own..

Cheers!

"HATE" is very strong word to describe the lack of pleasure I get from many of the breeds that have been mentioned. I would say my lack of enthusiam for Silkies, Seramas, Showgurlz, most bantams, most anything that has a high pitched screech best describes my attitude towards most every breed mentioned so far.

I wouldn't say I hate anything. I would, however, go out of my way to avoid silkies, frizzles, anything with a crest, show girls, basically anything that seems kind of like a poodle in a chicken suit. I guess I grew up with the image of the utility chicken (i.e. production/utility reds) and I kind of want "working" chickens. That said, I don't consider my Welsumers and EEs "working" chickens as much as the Reds and Barred Rocks. They're young and not laying yet, so I very well could be wrong. I got Welsumers b/c I think they look cool and the EEs b/c of the potential for colored eggs, purely indulgent.

The breeder I got the Welsumers from had some absolutely beautiful Langshans, as long as I didn't look at their legs. Feathered legs creep me out for some reason. I don't know why, I just don't like it.

BTW...I think Turkens are positively ugly, but if I had room I would have a bunch. I'm not sure how well they lay, but I'd like to try them as meaties. How about a BR/Turken cross?

This morning I disliked my serama roo Rohaus very much. Recently he's taken to crow at about 4:30 a.m......and it's non-stop, over and over and over. His little high pitched, shrill crow can get on one's nerves after hearing it 30+ times. In fact, I'm sitting here at work and I still hear it!!! The other big boys don't bother me at all. Their crows are low pitched and I actually love hearing them. But Rohaus...I'm gonna have to start muzzling him.

I don't HATE any breed but I wouldn't own certain ones ever, like RIR who always attacked us when we were kids. Lakenvelders, who attacked EVERYONE even after being whacked with a board a few times. Shamos and their like. UNuseful birds who don't lay and aren't big enough to eat, however, I will make exceptions for a couple of bantam breeds. I was sent LongCrowers as subs for other breeds I ordered this spring and got rid of them as quickly as I could.
I LOVE CORNISH of all varieties, however I think the CRXs are total freaks, and not of nature. I think Showgirls are freaky too, but I do own Silkies and think they are cool, even though it was my daughter who wanted them to show as her Cloverbud project. The Hamburgs are proving to be flighty, retarded things. Don't want any crosses that are sole production birds without brains or personality.
I could go on, but I don't want to ramble TOO much

I completely agree with this, I don't like normal chickens as a general rule, the only Sussex I don't like is Speckled Sussex, I think they are ugly. I love SQ BRs but I hate hatchery BRs. I like bantam Leghorns but not Standard. I do not like hatchery BOs, or hatchery RIRs. I think Dels are ugly as can be. BAs are not ugly but they are dull and are not appealing to the eye. I also do not like Langshans at all. Hatchery Cornish repulse me, and hatchery Silkies I also dislike. I also dislike Japanese bantams the most of all.
I would take these birds if they were free though, because I would put them in the coop for eggs.
