Speaking of Jace, she's working on her 4th clutch this year.

I'm headed that way! I kid myself into thinking I will sell the 'extras' once they are old enough, but they are my babies and our kids adore them all so it's too tough to part with them (other than boys who go back to their breeders as we are in suburbia, and that's hard enough). I'd make a terrible breeder!

Welcome! And sorry if I feed the addiction. I can't help it :D

I started with 5 roosters a couple years ago. If this broody hatches hers, it will put me over the 100 mark. I do sell some, and I plan to process some males very soon. With several broodies this year, I'm a bit heavy on little boys, and hormones are starting to kick in!!

There are chicken auctions here twice a year and the town limit is 12 chicken per household. This allows me to keep my numbers down around 20.

Although I thought we were done with chicks back in July, TWO hens had another plan. They hatched 11 chicks total & although not broody buddies, I have been able to slowly put the two families together. Now the chicks can snuggle under either hen w/o death threats. We are gradually selling the chicks, because we're already over our limit. The chicks are a little over 2 weeks old now.

Here are some pics (in reverse order)
My tiny little Sebright (named Trouble) is a very, very dedicated mama.

This is 1/2 Spitzhauben - just getting her mohawk started.

I love how "Cookie" looks like a helium ballooon when broody

They used to fight, so I had to use a screen window for a few days to separate them. They share a tractor for daily grass time & protection from hawks.
