Broody Duck Hen

It’s a bit out of focus, but this egg was under the broody ducks. I don’t really know how, but they managed to drop it into the pool, which is on the other side of the pen. While candling it a day or two ago I could tell it was dead, there were chuncks of stuff floating around and the yolk was all swirly. Nothing about it looked alive. After finding it in the pool, I opened it up completely (they had cracked it) and saw pretty much what I saw while candling it. I was going to candle it again tonight so I could mark it and do away with is in the morning, but they did it for me. But what I find crazy is that they knew which one it was, and they took it into the pool so I couldn’t smell it anymore (it had started to smell a day or so before). This obviously didn’t happen by coincidence, they must have tucked it up in their wing and carried it up on the rocks then down into the pool. Ducks are too smart. :th

Guess what everybody!!!

We have a few internal pips in some of the incubator eggs!!! Lockdown was supposed to start tomorrow but we candled them last night and saw that one was pipped on the inside, so we started lockdown today. :love:celebrate:wee
