Broody hatch-a-long!!! With Pippin!

Pics
ahhh, it’s so hard isn’t it! I’m hatching my first eggs ever, with a broody hen and I’m constantly telling myself to not have any expectations...but I still find myself hoping they all make it!
This time with the polish eggs, not making a names list! Even though at least 2 are fertile and developing. I will candle for the second time between day 11 and 15, then I can prepare for hatchlings

I’m even afraid to name my big girls, if something ever happened to them, I feel that I would be even sadder if they had names :(

Fingers double crossed for your two fertile eggos...excited and nervous for the results!

I’m planning on candling again on day 10 next Wednesday. It’s so hard to resist not doing it every single day...

My eggs are due on June 13th. They’re Delaware eggs, so at least they will be the same color as momma

What are your plans for hatching?I have so many different scenarios playing through my head about mine that I can’t make up my mind about the set up, although I’ll probably just end up playing it by ear as things develop. What I *dont* have is an incubator, but i can probably borrow on if things (hopefully never) comes down to that.

Day 11 update.
I will candle tonight and eliminate (get rid of) the infertile eggs. It gets dark really late so it will be really late when I candle.
I wrote up a plan I'd like to share.

PLAN
  1. put eggs under Pippin
  2. Candle day 7
  3. Candle day 11 and eliminate infertile eggs
  4. If eggs have developed, prepare for chicks
  5. Candle day 16 and prepare for lockdown
  6. Do not annoy Pippin during lockdown.
  7. Hope for chicks
