Broody Hen Thread!

3 hens and a roo! sounds about perfect to me. What a nice little hatch with those Rhodebars--for eggs--sounds wonderful. It will fun to watch your girls develop with those different markings too. Neat!

I'm a little scared for the BLRW eggs from Kentucky myself I'll candle Saturday...I think. See what's happening under Dixie.

Good luck...hopefully yours had gentler handling than mine...the box looked great but I held my breath as I set because the middle egg in the carton had an impact bullseye shell crack...which mean those around it had to get jostled pretty hard too...hence the detached air shells.

Apparently the tub was empty when my egg box was brought down the conveyor belt...hopefully the tub was full when yours came through.

There was a scrunch on a corner of the box.

Hard to say. One thing too they were wrapped heavy duty with thick paper toweling inside a foam egg carton and news print around the box. Would have felt a little bit warmer fuzzy feeling about bubble wrap. Maybe it doesn't make a difference... Remains to be seen. We've had nice luck in our chicken endeavor...hopefully it carries through with broodies, shipped eggs and hatching chicks.

Oh wow randerson!  That's nice! Is that just for the Broody?...or for  several chickens?  That pine paneling sure makes for a nice coop doesn't it?  Looks sharp.  Well done.
Ahaha thanks :) and no ahah it for about 20-30 chicks, it looks smaller than it actually is, :) im putting on the floor tonight :D

I have 5 hens. Two are buff chantecler. I got those two about 9 months ago and they were 2 years at that time and in full moult. Today, one of those girls started acting strangely and none of my 5 ladies has produced a single egg! She isn't laying but is resistant to leave the laying box and if she does leave...she is puffed up like a male turkey! I don't have a rooster. Could she be broody?!? I'm hoping she isn't sick :(

We have a Marans that has been broody since she started laying. She sat on nothing, guarded nothing ferociously, and puffed up like a basketball if anyone or anything walked by. So yours may be broody, keep an eye on everyone though, just to make sure they are healthy. Right now she's extremely happy sitting on 10 eggs. And growling at me and hubby when we walk past.
