You know what?! Sunday I went into the coop to see how everyone was and let Hilde off the nest. While she was doing her thing, I noticed daylight coming from under the coop. I didnt notice anything before because it has been such a gray winter this year. The last time this area had 3 consecutive days of sun was Thanksgiving. Anywho, that was bigger than a field mouse tunnel...you guessed it...a 7in(not including tail) RAT...living under the platform which was originally built to keep everyone off the dirt floor incase of torrential rains and mud. That darn thing had stockpiled at least 2 coffee cans of feed under there. GROSS/YUK! The DH and I moved Hilde's box in the glorious sunshine and went to work backfilling tunnels after murdering said rodent with a shovel! DH hit it and probably did the deed, but I wasnt taking any chances...hit it 2-3x more...DH was impressed with the emergency tracheostomy that I gave the rat(medical humor...sorry). The chicks started to hatch yesterday...boy that was providence! The darn thing could have killed the babies! Thank you Upstairs!

Yes. Good thing you found that guy before the chicks were hatched. No doubt he would have eaten those pretty babies.

Thank the lucky stars that you found it before the babies got here.

I just moved my silkie to her own little kennel. She has been sitting for almost a week now so I figured she is committed.

She had six under her but one had a crack at the end of it so I brougt it in and put candle wax on it and stuck it in the incubator. I will candle it later tonight to see if its ok.

My chicks are doing well too. I think I'm going to take them out of the stock tank tonight and let them have run of the barn. They may still have to go in the tank at night, but I'll see. They have really grown and feathered out. They are just a little over 2 wks old. I think they're too big to fit under Momma now. I see them on top of her more than anything. They look great.

We have PEEPING!!!!!!! I went out this morning to give mama new water and baby was chirping away. I asked mama if i cold see the baby and she growled at me.

So it should be today! My oldest only has a half day of school, so when he comes home, he's going to be so excited! Like me!

I promise pics when the baby is out! It's the law!
