I get a maybe 2 - 3 eggs from the meaties a week, all except for one that laid an egg and hasn't laid again since. She's special. Their eggs are generally huge and usually double yokers.
Actually the type of meatie she is - a commercial bird, called cobb on cobb - are created through artificial insemination because the roos are too big to mate.
Nothing wrong with asking questions, newbie or old-timer. That's how we gain knowledge.

i thought meaties didn't live past 6 weeks? do you have to care from them differently? she sure has a 'just try it!' look on that face

No, meaties - the commercial kind anyways - are generally processed at six weeks. After that it depends. You have to be careful how much you feed them, but even then sometimes their internals will outgrow their hearts ability to sustain them. These girls are coming up on 7 months old.

Thx for the confirmation, now my husband and i can stop sounding like non chicken owners

its cold here in nj, does the weather have anything to do with the eggs hatching? she sits all day, occasionally comes out to eat and scare everyone else, but mostly flattens out like a pancake over her eggs. its about time for them to hatch, but does the snow prolong the incubation? we cant wait for these chicks!! (hopefully we will get at least one, theres 5 under her.)

Probably not. They could be a few hours or a day late because they got a little cool, it can slow the growth a bit, but it's not noticeable, usually. Watch out, you might get 5! My 5 were from 8 eggs and would probably have been 7 except for their clumsiness during setting.

And, once again, I didn't have to say it!

Yes, it's astonishing! Broodies don't get off the nest much, so they save it until they do. I have to force most of mine off at least once a day, to dust bathe, eat, drink and stretch their legs. Then you have to be sure to stay upwind! It's really smelly.
