Broody Trouble! Please Help!

One was rotten.... The other was a chick. I cracked the rotten one first and assumed since they looked, weighted, and smelt the same that the other was rotten to.....
I was wrong, it was alive and I cracked one day to early... It breathed a few breaths in my hand and died.... I got a pic.... The hen with her was 8 years old, she would have been her last hatch..... she hatched two roosters this year........ I feel awful with myself, I probably will never hatch again, I've been awful with that poor dying bird..... If I had just left it.....

This chick does not look right, it does not look like it was one day away from hatching.

Sacrifice one.
Put one in a zip lock back and open it outside somewhere.

I am guessing that they are no good if you can't even see an air cell.

X2 on this. Maybe only make a hole in the top of one? Like, a hole big enough for you to see through, but not completely destroying any possible life. Also: I agree with KikisGirls, do it in a Ziploc bag, rotten eggs aren't forgiving...

Whoa there!
There are better ways to candle an egg than just a flashlight.
That's why you can't see any thing but black.

I'm not jumping on you or attacking you, I just want to tell you a better way to candle eggs.

There's no way you can see into an egg with a flashlight while being blinded by the flashlight.
Go get a oatmeal box, coffee can, shoe box and make sure its not clear, that it blocks the light. Put a quarter on lid and trace around it, you're about to cut a perfectly round hole the egg will rest in without falling thru. Put your flashlight, cell phone with light on, or some other very bright light source in there them put lid back on. put egg in lid hole pointy end down.
I currently use a Folgers coffee can with a hole in the black lid. But I used to have a shoe box that worked a Lot better. I took the shade off a small night lamp, took the bulb out, traced a perfect hole the same size as bulb screw in base on side of box, that way you can screw bulb thru the box and back into night lamp that lies on its side. Cut a quarter sized perfect hole in shoe box lid over where the light is located. The closer to perfect circle hole the better so you aren't blinded again. After you get the bulb and lamp attached to shoe box, plug it back in and test that the light comes on. If it does, put lid on box and set an egg point down into the hole on top of box. If you have done this right, even most brown eggs will light up like a light bulb and you'll be able to see what is in there. Most of the time when you see all dark, that means the baby is almost completely developed and not far from hatch.
It's a wonder you could even see anything in a white egg with that flashlight blinding you.
And I am also so sorry you lost one of your precious babies, but no one can blame you, we were all new at this at one time and have all made our share of mistakes starting out.
I certainly hope this helps your Candling Endeavors.

2 weeks is too early for chicks to hatch
I have hatched eggs before, and they are usually black at full term
I never saw one move or saw any signs until they cracked the shell, except some peeping.
I would just wait it out.
Are you sure all the eggs were put under the hen at the same time?
