I can't claim the "line" Punky. These are ALBC/Brown. They are from our hatch in January, 2011.

Can you get a clear picture showing the saddle feathers on it's back? (the ones where the tail meets the body)

Gal is right (as always.) Buckeyes are pretty easy to sex from about 10 weeks on, once you know what to look for. Easiest is to hold a bird in your hand with its head facing your stomach. Look down at the saddle feathers. If they're round and light, it's a pullet. If they're long, thin, pointy, and getting glossy, it's a cockerel.

Other hints will help, like comb and shank size, but saddle feathers never lie. I wish I had some pics to post, will try to do so when I have some younger birds around (sold the last batch of pullets just last week.)

hey guys,
whole reading through this thread, noticed a lot of you are feeding a game bird feed, i was wondering if you give extra calcium and what source(the ones i found or either 26 or 28% protein, 26% has animal and veg protein, 28% veg protein only, but the calcium is only 1-1.5%,
i noticed that laying pellets are 3-4%calcium) also, is it just for growing the birds and then switching to lay pellets at POL, or does everyone get the higher protein (game bird feed)?

thanks,
dave
