I took her from a group of 19. The ones that we think are cockerels had clear tail feathers starting to come in and their legs were very wide. This chick had much leaner legs and was fuller looking than the gangly cockerels. But boy are they hard to sex! Hoping I picked right, although I can always swap he/she out. Here is another shot. Thank you!

Yes, well, it does seem that winters are a bit longer than the few short weeks of extreme hot that most states from the middle up experience, so doing better in winter is A-OK with me. Also, thanks for the other additional info on your birds.
Anyone else count their eggs and want to share their experiences by answering the questions in my recent post from a couple of days ago about egg production?
CONGRATULATIONS to Sierra Bruse! Sierra won BOTH Grand Champion Male Fowl AND Grand Champion Female Fowl at the county 4-H fair with her Buckeye large fowl!
Sierra's younger sister, Hannah is also very involved in their chicken project. Unfortunately, she is too young to show in 4-H this year.
We're very proud of these two youngsters, and wish them the best with their showing of Buckeyes at the Missouri State Fair!
