Buckeye Breed Thread

Here's something I saved a long time ago that may be helpful when looking at the genetic formation for combs:

C:\\Documents and Settings\\Royce\\My Documents\\Poultry Info\\Poultry Genetics For Comb Possibilities & Punnet Square Formulas.mht

I just quickly glanced over it again. These kinds of things are such that I have to sit down and read and then reread them just to get it to make sense - and even then I'll forget what I read within a week!

As I quickly glanced it over, I have to ask myself, "Why can't one wind up with a bird that is (P, P) (P, P)"?

God Bless,

Laura it is!

Hello, I'm interested in acquiring quality Buckeyes. I've always liked the breed, and now I am in a place where I can expand my chicken collection. I am seriously wanting to breed excellent Buckeyes and willing to learn all I can about breeding and this beautiful heritage breed. In January I was hoping to buy a trio for about $100 and go from there. Does anyone know of good breeders you could refer me too?

It's downright depressing to go out there and look at all the chickens and realize I have almost nothing to take to crossroads. with my losses this year, everything left that's anywhere near show quality is either too young or molting.

Hang in there Jen. The great thing about raising poultry is the up-and-coming breeding season and the the anticipation of next years biddies. Take what you have learned this year and use it to your advantage.

Well, that does rule out a million or two square miles !! Picky picky !

True though that narrowing it down would give more indication of ability to ship/deliver etc.
