Buckeye Breed Thread

I was just on the phone with my buddy Matt John (of Shady Lane Poultry, from whom I got my first Buckeyes), and he says he's awash in Buckeye eggs! He and his buddy (who is a vet) are raising them together, and she's had lights on them for a while. I told him to sell some!

He said he was too busy with work, and I said it was a waste to be eating these eggs. So we worked out a deal.

He's going to have me list them on eBay and he'll drop ship them. So if anyone wants any, look for my auction there, should be up by about 4:30 this afternoon. These are birds from my bloodlines, which I gave him after his birds were washed away in the flood in '07. Matt's the one responsible for all this, totally his fault I'm into Buckeyes.

I also told him he should post here, he said he would tonight when he got home from work. So please welcome him when he does folks. Thanks.

This is a great thread and I think you could help make it even better.I've become a Buckeye fan since
I last heard from you and I have some of your eggs on order.I'm really looking forward to giving the
Buckeyes a try here in upstate New York.

Last Wednesday we had 37 birds die, it was difficult, a near tragedy but now the freezer is full.

My wife made buckeye pot pie last night and the extra parts are in the crock pot cooking down for some homemade buckeye soup tonight.

The one thing I learned from last year is that I need to produce all of the chicks that I can, the ones that don't sell are very tasty and produce some really nice hen fruit.

The buckeye is an amazing bird, they really are just plain out my favorite ever and very worth proliferating. I appreciate your newly acquired love for them, they really are just plain great.

I am sure your order is in the queue and you should be hearing from me in a week or two to schedule a ship date. Thanks for your order!!!
Peace,
Dave

I think Dave was speaking euphemistically about butchering cockerels. Right Dave?

God made them too tasty to live.
I brought them to an Amish guy for a haircut.... if you get my drift.
He butchers them for a $ 1.40 each and is just a great guy to hang around.

Hens too!!! I had some ugly splotchy hens that I picked up from a guy south of Dayton a year or two ago, they were never to standard but LAYed eggs for my personal consumption, so I ate them too. Dang tasty!!
