Buckeye Breed Thread

Well a week ago I culled six buckeye roos which left three. Yesterday I lost all three of my roosters along with six hens, three were buckeyes. That's how its been for me, get rid of extras and then a little later I lose the rest. What bad luck. Now I need a rooster and to invest in some electric netting.

So sorry to hear about this. Jen Scott had several extra males a few days ago. She is in SE Arkansas. Would probally have to mail her a USPS approved shipping box. Am sure she would let you have one reasonably. Hers is from Dave Putoff.

I was supposed to, but lost them all due to blizzard = power outtage and no heat. I wasn't doing Buckeyes this time, but I think I will do another practice hatch before I get more shipped anyway.

We lost power last year for 12 hours, the 'bator got down to 65 degrees, one week later we had chicks, yes there were some lost but keep the faith, the chicks may surprise you.

Unfortunately, they were all dead, I candled three times to make sure...it was 50 degrees in the incubator at it's coldest.

Oh nooo, so sorry to hear that!

I'll tell you, that's why I haven't started hatching yet. We have power outages here when we get bad weather, one year it was off for a week just before Christmas! And last year we had a bad ice storm where some of my neighbors didn't have power for ten days or more. So I've been gun shy about cranking up the incubator quite yet. We have a generator, but it's only going to be able to power so many things, and hard to justify losing all the stuff in the freezer just for some eggs in the incubator. So I've waited, but won't wait much longer!

How far is Peebles from Cincinnati? My friend Marianne has some extra males, I'll bet I could scoop one up from her barn and my DH could meet you in Cinn with it (he works there.)

Contact me offline at lhaggarty AT blueone DOT net if you're interested. So sorry to hear about the predators!

I would just wait until he figures out how to keep the girlies safe.
