I'm surprised at how distinctive the Buckeyes are in personality. We've raised a few generations of bantam buff brahmas, which are nice birds, don't mind being held or handled, and are moderately curious, and can take or leave roosting.
The young Buckeyes are in-your-face curious, always wanting to know what we are up to. They love to roost. At the moment, they are arguing over who gets to roost on the waterer. When I open the door to their cage, one always hops out at me - not to get away, just to see what I'm up to and get a better look at the world. They like to sit on my arm while I'm trying to add water or food. However, the moment I try to hold one, squawk squawk squawk! They want to be out, and with me, but on their terms rather than mine. They are very self-assured.
Interestingly, they seem to be the latest to completely feather of this group, but the first to develop combs. The Brahma born the same week has had full feathering for a couple of weeks, but the buckeyes are just getting the last of their head feathers.
