Budgie Chat Thread!

Looks like one of yours is a yellow faced blue? The other a cinnamon wing maybe? Definitely lighter in the wing markings.

I don't usually see mating. It's usually quick. I see lots of feeding and sweet talking. If you are interested in breeding generally you need to give them a nestbox after bringing them into breeding condition. I used to sprout seeds for mine. I also think time of year is important too. Mine are currently molting.

Yes! One of my blues is Yellowface. I didn’t realize that was a mutation until I started reading that site. :D
Now I’ve been reading for hours, and watching videos. I think I have a Yellowface cobalt, a greywing sky, and a grey green Opaline. (Saw cinnamon, but don’t think any of mine are, but I’ll re-check that)
Still not positive on everything, but I’m learning! Lol

Beauties! I see pied and clearwing? More of the mutations I was just reading. So much to take in! The combinations are nearly endless. I’m fascinated.

You already know more about color than me. I'm a dabbler. :D It is all pretty cool the different combinations and markings. They all came from on little yellow faced green bird.

Hi everyone! I know this thread is an old one but I was looking through some of the budgie threads and this one had some good info.. so I thought I’d try and kickstart it again... I got my first parakeet when I was a young girl.. I saved my money and bought her myself.. from Wal-mart ... waaaay back when Walmart sold some pets.. she was my best little friend and went everywhere with me.. even around the neighborhood... I never had to train her.. just put my hand in and she stepped up on my finger.. never clipped her wings.. she would never fly away.. and when she did try she would only go so far.. she was pretty fat!.. her name was Birdie.. I thought she was a boy for most of the years I had her... then she laid an egg ... I loved that little bird!
Now we have four.. they are for my girl mostly but now I am having hubs build them a large outdoor cage and will get a couple more for me :D... I’ll post pics of them in their new cage..

I have nine at the moment - Happy, Harmony, Echo, Ripley, Rain, Delta, Phoenix, Sebastian, and Storm, and might add another so it's all even numbers.
They live in a five foot x 18 inch wide x 36 high flight cage I made by taking apart and ziptying together 4 smaller cages.

With this group I tried to mix up the colors for as much variety as possible. There is a green opaline, a dark green wild type, a dark blue yellowface opaline, 3 white recessive pieds, two yellow recessive pieds, and a goldenface sky blue greywing "rainbow" budgie. If I get another it will probably be a lighter shade of blue.

None of them are human social, but they are very happy in a large flock and entertain themselves. A couple years ago I raised one from hatching and he was very tame, but I have never come close to that degree of trust in a bird I did not raise.

Did you make those grapevine wreaths or buy them? That's a great idea.
