About 48 hours ago we noticed our buff brahma was limping. She is about 5 months old. It has been very wet this week and her feathered feed were muddy. We washed and soaked her feet, look around and didn't see anything obvious. We did notice was looked like maybe a small sliver, or a very small short feather shaft-1/8 inch, we pulled it out easily.
We found another strange looking feather shaft hole, and a broken feather with a little dried blood-see photo.
She seemed to be doing better the next evening, putting some weight on it. This morning she was still limping and looked in pain, so we washed, soaked, and inspected. She free ranged for several hours in grass and woods and is putting less weight and looks more uncomfortable than this morning.
I have also put vasoline on her legs because i am worried about leg mites.

Can broken feathers cause her pain? She "skin" around some of her feathers on her foot looks possibly pink and soft. What can i do or look for?

Can you get some photos of her standing?
Have you inspected her toes, bottom of her feet and joints for any signs of scabs/injuries?

She does have a broken feather which was at some point bleeding. Hard to know if this would cause enough discomfort for her to decline.

What do you feed, including treats?

They are currently eating a layer crumble with a little chili flakes mixed in as their main food source but usually have pellets, food scraps when we have them. They occasionally free range in the yard (a couple hours a day, some days not at all if we are busy) and get meal worms as treat (when they come back from free range). I did have a kid over 2 days before we saw the limp who gave several handfuls of worms to the 10 girls...
here are some photos from today. She is sometimes holding it up, sometimes not. I was holding her and did feel her put some pressure/weight on my hand. I am able to touch all parts of her leg/ankle/toes and flexed both her legs without any clear signs of discomfort from her

see my added post with more photos. eating layer feed mostly. No sign of injury/scabs/etc that I can tell

The feet look a little puffy, hopefully she just injured it somehow and it will resolve itself over the course of several days.
You can give her feet soaks in warm epsom salts bath to help with inflammation if you wish.
