This is for anyone who hates buff Orps to rant about them. This is strictly BUFF Orps. Not Orps in general. Though I don’t mind if you rant about all orps.

But if you like most Orps, just not buff, you are welcome here too.

If you are a buff Orp LOVER do NOT come here and get angry or call us stupid for hating buff Orps. I’m all for bickering. But if you wish to argue about why buff Orps are great please make your own thread and tag me in it. I will even link it in this post for others who want to bicker.

Now don’t be fooled. I don’t hate all Orpingtons. Just buff Orps and hatchery Orps. Buff Hatchery Orps being the worst of both worlds. I would die for a English lavender cuckoo Orp, or and English Blue Laced, Or really any English Orp that isn’t buff. Especially if they are @ColtHandorf ‘s English Orps.

My complaints about Buff Orpingtons:

1. Solid Buff is UGLY. Not just on Orps. But on all breeds in general.
2. I HATE when people call their Buff Orps “buffs“ “buffies” “buff” “Buffy” etc... Orpingtons aren’t the only breeds that come in buff you know.
3. I HATE HATE HATE. When people are looking for breed recommendation and people say “Buff Orpingtons” why not just say “Orpington?” The color doesn’t change the breed you know.
4. The common hatchery Orps have ZERO fluff. Orpingtons are suppose to be a fluffy breed but instead you get skinny non fluffy things that look like this : View attachment 2577065
5. They are way overrated. Too much hype for what most people call “Buff Orps“ are really just hatchery production birds far from what an actual Orpington should be.

I'm still trying to count how many times you said 'Orp'.

My view of Buff Orpingtons is that they look like deflated beach balls.
Not saying I hate them, let's just say an interesting breed..

She’s okay.

My hatred for hatchery lavender Orps Is not nearly as strong as hatchery buff Orps. With hatchery buff Orps not only are they a disgrace to real orpingtons but their color is hideous. Hatchery lav Orps are only a disgrace.

Good luck. The last (to my knowledge) 'hater' thread for a popular breed got removed because certain fans of the breed could not handle that not everyone loved them, and they wouldn't stop raiding the thread and causing turmoil on an otherwise fun and actually somewhat educational thread.


Anyway, I do agree. I've never been a fan of solid buff as a variety in any breed (Buff Columbian? So pretty! Buff barred? Lovely! Just buff? ...Meh.), and I definitely agree that hatchery Buff Orpingtons are way, WAY overrated.

I’m the same way. Buff silkie is the ONLY solid buff I can stand. I don’t like solid buff on anything else, not even a fan of it on Cochins or Ameraucanas.

I LOVE buff laced though. I would die for a buff laced bearded polish.

Oh, goodness, I forgot about buff laced! But yeah, much as I love Cochins and Ameraucanas, I also would never have either in buff.

And wow! That’s crazy.

Yuuuup. I was so disgusted by the whole thing I actually quit coming to BYC regularly for a couple weeks. Couldn't stay away in the long run, of course, but it was pretty bad for me at the time.
