My Orps have always been amazing. yes they’re hatchery and yes the females, especially one, are/were pretty runty for the breed, but they’re soooooo sweet and friendly, curious, etc. and my rooster was MASSIVE as were his mix sons haha

Lol I know this isn't the point of the thread but my buffs are the snuggliest chickens in the group. Both of mine are very sweet and cuddly.

I understand the "hate" lol,, its like me hating on French Bulldogs and Bulldogs in general

but spreading misinformation isn't cool. "My buff orpingtons where mean" is more approprite

I’m just not so sure people should characterize them as “starter birds”. Perhaps typical breed characteristics vary wildly depending on the hatchery or other circumstances.
They’re also really hefty birds. They do okay here in desert, but they require more attention to keep them cool, at least more than my other birds.
I’m just saying they’re not the perfect bird for everyone to start with.
