Oh my gosh the Barred Plymouth Rock thing cracks me up. I've thought about trying to correct people in some of those threads, but figured trying to explain the nuance of it would just be a waste of typing 💀
Well I’m glad I’ve been educated - no, seriously. Fortunately I don’t have any of my own, so I haven’t had to say it wrong much. Also I can never remember ‘Plymouth’ so I just say barred rock - which is maybe closer but apparently still off. 😄

....And that's why I have never really mentioned it before on BYC

Some people just get ideas in their heads and no matter what anyone else says, even respected members of the community, these people will not be convinced otherwise. And I'm not on BYC to argue, I get plenty of stress in my day to day life without that! So, yeah, you won't see me correcting anyone on that, either. 🤣

(For the record, I am not referring to anyone here. ;) )
My thoughts too. I was recently given some sass about me not thinking someone's bird was pure that they were breeding 😳😳 Might have been overstepping, but I honestly wanted to help them understand and it's a breed I am familiar with and was comfortable helping out with. Easier to move on than fight a battle where there is no way you're going to win. Sometimes it's just so hard to gauge how people will react to their views being questioned. I usually just try to hop off that train as soon as it seems to be turning heated 😂

No, no, Barred Rock is fine! I call mine that! My point was more that if you're going to insist on calling them by their full name, make sure you say it correctly: Barred Plymouth Rock, NOT Plymouth Barred Rock.

I usually just say Barred Rock as well  Most people understand what it means without the Plymouth and saves some typing 😂 To me it's just odd when they break up the "Plymouth" and the "Rock," and insert the "Barred" right in middle

Compared to the standard, hatchery Orpingtons are much smaller and have much less fluff. They are designed to mature quickly and lay lots of eggs for breeding. Perhaps chunkier than other hatchery breeds, but not like what the standards call for, especially in comparison to English Orps. Here was my English Orp male (not buff, but comparable body type) at only five months. In comparison, hatchery birds look scrawny to me.

Oh my goodness he is absolutely gorgeous. A true Orpington.

that dude looks like a cochin
That’s a compliment.

He’s a true Orpington, not one of these scrawny things:

Yes! He was like a walking basketball! He was honest to God the sweetest cockerel I have ever encountered, but sadly he got fly strike and even after me trying everything, passed away 😞 He was a massive bird and he wasn't even close to maturity yet! Your Orpington looks a bit fluffier than most hatchery stock and is a pretty bird! In comparison to the English or American show stock however, she would look much smaller and less filled out! Still a pretty bird :)
I’m so sorry you lost him, he was perfect.

I get temped to correct people on Ameraucana constantly, and I do... sometimes.... now I’ve made this so can paste it everywhere. 😝
