My AM was definitely one of the best broodies I’ve ever owned. I wouldn’t trust any of the Orpingtons I’ve had because they were all extremely dumb.

Thunder, Lav, and Nugget had a whole huge tussle over the baby the other day. I swear you would’ve thought they were gamecocks. Feathers broke it up, he was not happy with them. They each got a peck on the head.

Every variety of Orpingtons I've ever had were often broody except Buffs and Lavenders. Never had one of either go broody.

My Ameraucana is vicious when she is broody. She draws blood everytime I try to collect the eggs.

I miss my Mel.
She was a typical Orp in looks, but that’s where the typicality stopped. She was never cuddly. And she was so mean for most of her life. She was much calmer in the later months but was still not friendly.
But she was so smart. Always very watchful and cautious, but confident in her ability to defend the flock she ruled.
Nutmeg still takes the cake for smartest hen but Mel was right up there.
