I have an 8 week BO that I ordered from a hatchery. She is supposed to be a hen but I'm worried that she is a rooster. What does everyone else with more chicken experience think? (She/he is not bossy to any of the other chickens. I'm only basing my suspension on her comb & waddles. She is about the same size maybe slightly smaller then all the others her age.)
We have 11 chickens all together. Still unsure how many are girls vs boys. So far this is the only one that has me thinking boy but we also have 2 silkies that could potentially be since they were a straight run. We are not allowed roosters in our city so we are not too sure what our plan is if we have any.At 8wks I vote that Gigi is a George. He's a cutie
At that age the boys can be sweet, friendly and not too bossy.
How many girls do you have?
If all end of girls except for "George"it would be nice if you could keep him.
If you aren't allowed to keep him though, I suggest you go ahead and see if you can re-home him. If you haven't already, you will get attached to him for sure.
I'm not so sure it's a roo..usually..roos have bigger feet a deeper red comb and larger wattles..they also have longer pointy saddle feathers and darker longer tail feathers at that ageTo late, my daughter already loves him/her. We technically are not supposed to have any roosters in our city. That said our neighbors have 5. We are going to keep him/her until we have a definite crow. If he becomes a nuance we just found out our local feed store will take roosters and unwanted animals of any type (they have pigs, goats, ducks, turkeys, hens and lots of roosters.) So we know he will be taken care and we can still visit.
Fingers crossed your right abragaI'm not so sure it's a roo..usually..roos have bigger feet a deeper red comb and larger wattles..they also have longer pointy saddle feathers and darker longer tail feathers at that age
