Building a farm .. Updated 8/24 Complete/ *PICS*

Your wooded drive reminds me of our old:rolleyes:

place in Virginia. All the trees lining the Driveway. Squirrels dropping pinecones on us as we walked under the trees. Those squirrels seemed to be taunting us! That is, until my dogs came along with us. Once the dogs walked with us, there was complete silence in those trees!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Builder just called, he wants the front entrance door and windows tomarrow .. The one's we picked out to order won't be ready for 2-3 weeks.. good thing we didn't order them!

I'm off for a long lunch at a builders supply store to pick out some doors ..................

I hate shopping..

LOL ...not! We're still getting the front door entrance we wanted .. it's just going to be 2-3 weeks .. not ideal for the builder, but he wants us to be happy. He'll have to install the door himself (instead of having the framers do it) .. but no biggie .. (I wish he hadn't scared me like that!)

Wow!

As for water, how in the world they found water? Would you need to run the water for awhile to get the sediments out of it? Or be tested?

Now for the cost of having your own well, how much would it cost ?

They went down 224 feet and found water .. I've lived in this area before with a well and the water is really good. I'm not sure exactly how they do it??? I guess I should ask the questions and learn, huh? But I know that it's not different when you turn the faucet on (or at least it wasn't before) .. than city water. Nice clear clean water .. yummy!

Oh, and cost. They estimated 6000.00, but they also thought they'd have to go down 300 feet. So we should come in under that.. I'll let you know!

Thanks for asking!

From this site: http://www.wellowner2.org/2009/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=13:types-of-wells&layout=blog&Itemid=3&layout=default

Drilled
wells. Drilled wells are constructed by either cable tool (percussion) or rotary-drilling machines. Drilled wells that penetrate unconsolidated material require installation of casing and a screen to prevent inflow of sediment and collapse. They can be drilled more than 1,000 feet deep. The space around the casing must be sealed with grouting material of either neat cement or bentonite clay to prevent contamination by water draining from the surface downward around the outside of the casing.

And a pretty good illustration:

COOOL! And it comes with a price tag for a lifetime of water! I never can understand how water can be so far down and come out safe to drink. Makes me think we had glaciers back thousand of years and somehow those pockets of water is available for the tapping!

Glad it is not raining all the time! At least the hurricane season has been mild for US.

You betcha .. and if the power goes out -- eliminating the power to the pump -- you hook the generator up to it, draw what you need and go on. We are looking into a hand pump also, just in case ......

Geez .. I almost forgot. Earlier this week, while the chicks were out and I was wondering around the place waiting for the framers to leave so I could see the changes on the house .....

.... I'm hearing "tap tap tap tap" .. and then bark falling from the top of a tree to the ground. Ah, ha! I know a woodpecker when I hear one. So I snuck around to where the sun would be shining on the top of the trees. Sure enough ... way up there .. was a Piliated Woodpecker.

Now, my camera cost me less than 200.00 .. so I was skeptical that I would be able to capture an image at all, but between analog and digital zoom .. I was able to get him!

Do you see him?

This pic isn't as clear, but he's not partially hidden by a shadow ..

Now I guess I'll have to build woodpecker houses ...
