Building an "Old Style" henhouse.....move in day!....... (pics)

LOL Steve, I'm going to have to see if my dad can take one of his precious days off to come help me with my building here.

If I buy the wood, will you build me one? You know what they say, if you buy it, they will come build it!

Great job going there.

Please keep pictures coming as you finish the inside, as I have a small portable wood shed I am considering changing over into a hen house, and while mine is smaller, the design is the same, and I need to see how you are doing the inside!!!

My wife takes a shower everyday in our bathroom that is a o.s.b. floor and linoleum. She also washes that floor once a week. Our laundry room has had it's share of washing machine spillovers, also o.s.b. and linoleum. In all those "wet" conditions the osb has shown no signs of wetness or swelling from underneath nor in imperfections in the linoleum from above. I don't think the floor in the henhouse is gonna get any wetter than my bathroom or laundry room floor has over all these years.

I was thinking the same thing. Sorry. Every old barn that has/had a wood floor has/had dimensional lumber flooring. Pressure treated (and this is going to open an entire can of worms about the chemicals used in the treatment) wood/sheeting would have been my first choice. With that being said I would also try my best to seal the top surface with something that may be healthier to the birds. (I am just throwing out ideas, I am not a contractor. Such products may only exist in my head

Wait! How about cedar or that recycled decking? That would be a option

I'm been eyeing your avatar and plotting how to make a tiny version here. I didn't realize you had a thread on it. Yay!
Your progress looks great! I can't wait to see it completed. How many chickens will yours hold? What will your run look like?

I have a pieced-together OSB floor in my coop. I've used it for over a year in all kinds of weather and use the deep litter method with either hay or pine shavings depending on what I have available and I have no problems with the floor wearing out or having moisture problems. I am excited to try putting linoleum on the floor of the next coop I build because it will make it that much easier to clean out. Once again, I have no problems with the OSB in my present coop getting wet because of the deep litter method.
