Building my first coop! - progress thread

Looks good!
Options to close or baffle vents is always good.
Tacking up a piece of cardboard inside can do the trick to block or redirect airflow.
Thanks.
Cardboard sounds easy and convenient, but I'm afraid it would get wet and tear, if there's a storm (especially one with "horizontal rain/snow"). I think I'll leave everything open for now and use this winter as a test winter, since there will be no chickens in the coop yet. I'll go check the coop after storms to see if rain/snow is being blown in, where, and how much, and test out wooden flaps in different places. Top-hinged with a stick propping them open, but I want to design it so the flap can open by different amounts, attaching to different points along the stick, so I can control how open it is. So even in a storm, if it's mostly closed but not all the way, there will still be a crack for air circulation, but the flap will lock onto the stick in that position so it doesn't get blown around.

Another after dark accomplishment from last night - window and chicken door trim. Working late and tired has its costs though. I forgot to sandwich the hardware cloth between the walls and the trim. But I have an idea for how to attach the HC, still on the outside, and without messing up the looks. I’ll test it out when this flood-warning-level stretch of rain passes.

That's some sweetly tricky window trim there 'rookie'! ;)
Aw thanks! [blush]

Check out another fancy little touch. I had leftover drip edge flashing, so I put it on the bottom of the chicken door frame, to make a little threshold to protect the OSB edge from scratchy dirty chicken feet:

Then I painted it white along with the trim and now you can’t even tell it’s there:

Looks good!
Are you putting a door on the pop door opening, what kind?
Thanks!
Yes, I’m gonna make a door out of my leftover OSB and paint it black to match the human door (and our house door - the coop is painted to match the house overall - walls, trim and door).

Good thinking to protect the OSB...but...is the nailed edge of the metal sharp?
Might hurt chicken feet?

Nope, it’s flat against the wood and doesn’t extend past it. In fact, it doesn’t even reach all the way to the back. I ran my hand over it, feels fine. I wouldn’t leave a sharp edge.
