Building My First Coop

Did you end up trying this method?

Ha ! Yea , gonna have to try and coax them with some food , they are still in the coop .

Yea , I sprinkled feed on the ramp and they looked it over real good but still would only stick their heads out the doorway . So I went in the coop and took them one by one and put them on the ramp blocking them from returning and they all walked down the ramp . Then I closed the door and they all walked back up the ramp and picked up all the food I sprinkled . They appear to be pretty close to doing it on their own , heck , they might even walk up into the coop on their own tonight .

Edit ; Kids have to go in the run to say hello when they got home from school

The birds are starting to go in the coop , 5 in one at the door

By the way I'm starting to plan out my run, and have decided on a gable roof (partially covered) so I'm studying your build thread now. The step by step pictures are very helpful!

Thanks . Yes , they figured when to head in , hopefully in the morning they'll go out .

Covered run with a gable roof should be nice . Looking forward to seeing it take shape .

Yes , about 4:30 one of them went about half way up the ramp , then 3 of them flew up above that one on the ramp and ran inside , the rest soon followed , and of course there's always a straggler , she sat at the door and took another few minutes to finally go inside .

Well , this morning I opened the pop door and called for the little ones , 4 of them came running right out down the ramp into the run , 2 stayed in the doorway and looked . The 4 in the run then decided they would go back up the ramp into the coop . I ended up going into the coop and herding them out again closing the pop door behind them .

Yes , another few days and I think they'll be coming out on their own , they just need a bit more confidence .
