Building My First Coop

Pics
Can you raise the waterer, so it's back height of the pullets? It will be easier for them to drink from it? It looks like the one in the pic is bending down pretty good to use it. You may have raised it already, since the pic.

Yea , I can raise it , just gotta move the hook to the face of the coop and up a little higher . I'll get to it when the sun comes back around .

I would not hang a HN waterer, better to put it on a block to raise it, they might have a harder time pushing if waterer can swing on a rope/chain?
What do you think @blackdog043 ?

I have seen others that have them hanging and I wonder the same thing. It was already hanging so I guess it has been working. I prefer mine sitting on a hard surface. I use cap blocks to set my feeders and waterers on.

I've used half blocks(kinda high), or half block with a couple of half pavers(lower)....
....and half block with a 2" foam protected by a half a 3 gal square bucket in winter.

I've been watching them for a few days now drinking from the horizontal nipples and while the bucket is hanging from the screwed in hook there really is not much movement so to speak , they drink till they get their fill and move on . I do have it hanging from a chain when I put it inside the coop and there is more movement with that setup but not a lot and certainly doesn't look like its impeding or deterring their drinking . It's not appearing to me to be an issue in my case .

Just got back home the other day from 3 weeks away . The boys did a great job taking care of the chickies and they grew quite a bit . The coop is working great , the girls are staying nice and warm at night all on their own . So far so good :)

All six of the girls are going up to roost now , there was one or two stragglers staying down on the floor for the past week or so but looks like they finally figured it out .

The Wyze cams are working out great , I check on the girls every night and every morn , check to see that the pop door opens or closes and that all is well .

I picked up some horizontal nipples so I could make a water jug for the spring/summer/fall and not have to use the corded/heated winter water jug year round and out in the run . Also got a 3.5 gallon food grade bucket and a gamma seal screw on lid . Put them all together and tested for leaks . I'm about 3 months ahead of schedule with this but to keep from going stir crazy small projects keep me out of trouble . :gig

I'll figure something out to keep the girls from roosting on the top of the bucket by the time its warm enough to go in the run .
