I didn’t notice my duck limping till the other day and just now saw her foot, none of them like being picked up. I was wondering how severe this is? I have her soaking in an Epsom salt bath right now and will put neosporn on after and wrap it. I was wondering how severe this is.. it looks bad and I looked it up that you perform the surgery part yourself with help. I don’t have money for a vet and I was wondering if this can be solved by treatment. Thank you!!

Treatment for severe cases of bumblefoot is preferred to be done in a clinical setting but can be accomplished at home with strict treatment measures. I would personally soak the necrotic tissue you see until it is loosened to the point it can be removed via tweezers and a scapel. This process may take several days.

The idea of removing the scabbing is to allow proper migration of the cells so the wound can be closed properly. To address the bacteria presumably inside the tissue, antibiotic therapy would be recommended. Fish, and bird antibiotics can be obtained online without an RX in the united states. The product below is effective for treating staphylococcus infections and can be given at a dose of 0.05ml per pound, twice a day for five days straight, orally.

The topical application of an antibacterial ointment can also prove useful.
Additional measures to hasten treatment include keeping the bird on soft grounds, bandaging the foot, and water therapy to keep weight off of the sore and prove circulation to the area.

Thank you! I will still be looking into vets but in the meantime I will buy that antibacterial. I will try treatment first to see if it goes away. Thank you again!

That looks like a doozy infection. my vets would do surgery to remove with a whole load of antibiotics treatment.
A lot of folks here are able to do the surgery themselves, but I personally don’t have the confidence to do so.

I believe Isaac O has great suggestions to try.

I would recommend investing in some duck booties to use during treatment. I have held off for a while getting some for my Pekin and just used vet wrap. The vet wrap was irritating her upper foot area, so I finally got some. It helped her recovery a lot during my most recent treatment. Krazy k farms sells them and they ship fairly quick.

Also Enrofloxacin is the generic form of baytril, and available on the allbirdsproducts website too. It is cheaper for the same thing.

Otherwise @Isaac 0 said it all.

I bought those and they are really great. You do have to take them off daily though, otherwise they get duck funky. But they give great relief to the du.

Thank you! I’ll invest in those boots I think!
