Bumblefoot in a Silver Appleyard duck

Pics
Since I just got done with 14 days of antibiotics pills, twice a day...on two ducks, I think I can offer up some tips. 1st - does she's gooble up anything you put in your hand? Or is she slow to grab out of your hand, almost like she must inspect it first before taking it?
If she's quick to grab out of your hand you might be able to get away with pushing the pill into watermelon chunks or apple chunks. If the pill is small enough you could get some large peas and pop the insides out and stuff the pill into the skin of the pea, then give her a handful of peas with the "fake pea"....worked great until they figured out I was feeding them meds!!
If she's not one to grab right out of your hand, it hate to say it but whole pill down the throat is going to be the easiest way.

Since I did a ton of trials and errors...and wasted meds here's what ended up doing. I would go outside to my ducks and gently grab one . (If you can imagine) while down on my knees I would place the duck in between my legs with the duck face facing out. I would hold her mouth with my left hand. The pill was on my right hand 1st finger (just a little moisture on my finger would hold the pill on my finger) using my left 1st finger I would open her mouth. Take my right hand 1st finger slide it down the top of her roof of her mouth on the right side and down her throat.

Trust me, I was nervous as hell, but every day it got better and better. The most I struggled with was keeping her mouth open long enough for me to get my poop in a group to get the pill down her throat. My 1st finger in my left hand side took a beating, I mean those bills are strong if they a little piece of skin....

I wish you the best of luck, we are all here for you!!
Thank you! That's so helpful. No, she won't take anything from my hand, she's pretty skittish if her environment's this different. Down the roof of the mouth? Does it matter if it is to the side or down the middle? I cannot find any diagrams of placement of the trachea in ducks, and miss Hailey is too much of a wiggle worm to let me see.

Just to clarify @BantyChooks I mean I figured you were in contact with Kathy - NOT bugging her:lau
I knew what you meant. :gig

You’re welcome!! Since I am not that tech savvy and I’m on my phone...here is the link that @casportpony helped me with. Page 31 has images of a chicken getting meds and it shows that they can take foood and water down each side- the trachea is in the center. You don’t want the pill to go into the center. Once you get your finger down there once you will understand. Oh also, which ever finger you use cut the nail as low as possible, I noticed that I was scraping their top of mouth. Shell less duck egg with broken yolk next to it

Thank you! I'll go try to poke around again, then.
