I had another hen with bumblefoot months ago, but her’s had the typical looking scab and everything. However, Copper, the one in question, has what looks to be a gash on her foot. How would I go about treating this since there’s no scab to take off and doesn’t look like there’s anything to get out from the bottom? The top part that’s red feels hard when I press on it, though.

i have another bumblefoot issue, but it isn’t Tilly this time. It’s Copper and her bumblefoot is/looks different than Tilly’s did

Walking on it? Problem for me right now is..I can’t decide if this is..on its way up, or already healing..maybe just wait a day and see? Only alternative is lancing w a sterile scalpel and doing the surgery, so..I don’t know..wait a day?

She’s walking on it just fine, I didn’t realize she had anything wrong until I happened to catch a glimpse of red on top of her foot when I was giving everyone their food. I have no idea how long it’s been there, so it could’ve just started or it’s healing up. I have no idea, but it’s different than the last case of bumblefoot I had to deal with.

Well..cutting is always a last resort..maybe some warm soaks, Epsom salts, some sort of drawing salve, see if it improves.

That looks like a simple wound that is starting to heal just fine. Bumblefoot is where a wound has become infected. Just do daily wound treatment so you can monitor for infection. I use Vetericyn wound spray a few times a day on a simple would like that.

Have you heard of pine tar? It's a 2000 year old animal wound treatment still employed today. You spread in over the wound to completely seal it and let it dry hard. Then forget it. Tissue heals under it and the dried tar falls away after the wound has healed. It's great for busy farmers who have little time to spend on daily wound care.

Oh, good, because bumblefoot was a pain in the a** to treat. I still have vetericyn from where I treated Tilly, but now I have blue-kote too. Would that work for now? I’m not sure where I would even get pine tar other than trying to order it online.

Should I spray kote and then try wrapping it?

I’ve heard Chicken Chick diss Blu Kote, better for a disinfectant, or antibiotic ointment, or what some other posters suggested..blu kote stings too, from what I understand..

Ichthammol drawing salve might help. Pull out fluid then you see more clearly what it is. Hope she feels better soon 🙏🏻
