Then, I watched with amazement as those little darlings clambered up on top of their little stuffed animal and lept off. I watched them climb up onto the mama in the other pen and watched her knock them every which way if they were in the way. I watched them fall off her back/wing as she walked, roll over, and get up and keep on going.
I am now able to pick them up (ever so gently, still) without fear. I have a very light & gentle touch, anyway, so there is little chance that I'll accidentally hurt one. They are just so tiny it is more like holding a butterfly than a bird!
