Hello, I have a pair of button quails and the hen has just recently laid 8 eggs. She started to attack him amediately after she laid the 8th egg and has continued to chase him around constantly. Whenever she catches him she tries to pluck one of the fathers out. I currently have them separated but I want to know why is she pecking him and how do I stop it. Thank you

She's broody. She wants to sit on eggs. He is in the way. She wants him to back off so she can sit on her nest in peace.
If you don't want chicks, take the eggs away. If you do, move the male or let them try to work it out. I usually remove my males from the hens when babies hatch anyway, most are horrible father's and try to hurt the babies. I have had one excellent dad though, so I left him with the babies and mom. He is a great dad.
