Buyer grief, what would you do?

Yes, I even mentioned that episode to the buyer when he was asking for me to track them the day after they shipped, as he wanted to know if they'd be any good when they arrived.

Wow...can I ask what their fb looks like? Sounds like an incredibly difficult buyer to me if they were e-mailing the day after.

Just to add my 2cents... I'm an Ebayer with 723 100% feedback. I'm a buyer, not a seller. I've sold maybe 5 things. Looking at it from a buyers perspective, your buyer's full of poop. In 10 years and 723+ transactions, I have left negative feedback once (the money was taken and the item was reposted). I never begin a dispute with a negative feedback threat. I've had auctions where the items were not as described, or they sent the wrong thing and I always tried to work with the seller. Sometimes I like the wrong item better and that has worked for the seller, or I return the wrong item and they send the right one. To demand that a seller refund the money without returning anything or giving the seller the opportunity to replace with like, same, kind, is wrong. This smells like a scam.

I just purchased silkie eggs off of Ebay and understood the risks I was taking in paying to have eggs shipped. They're eggs for pete's sake! If you package your eggs similar to my seller, you did a spectacular job. I live in central/south Texas, so temperature wasn't a factor for me, but if we had snow, I am intelligent enough to know that perhaps it's not the best time to have eggs shipped to me.

One more thing...if you have less than 100% feedback and had a negative, I would still consider buying from you, if you had what I wanted and you explained the negative in your feedback response. You always take a chance buying off Ebay, if the buyer doesn't understand that, she needs to stop bidding.

It seems they were looking for issues before they even got the eggs!! I'd have asked them why they bought them if they were so concerned with them arriving safely!

Ebay's awful now - we quit selling our antiques 2 years ago when they changed their policies and kept hiking their fees. Now of course, as a seller you have NO recourse whatsoever and the "buyer is right" no matter what - even if they dont flipping pay!

They can have buyers remorse all day long and still get their money back from PayPal (eBay), give you a negative or reverse the positive feedback if they gave it to you to begin with - and you're screwed.

Add a clause that if ordering birds in the winter you are not responsible for frozen eggs - or - you could simply NOT ship eggs until you know that the weather across the US is above freezing, period. Thats the only way to cover your behind - one of those two, regardless if you packaged them like Fort Knox (which I'm sure you did). Another thought - if the buyers so choose to purchase in a cold weather area - they will have to pay extra for little heating pads (you know the ones - the hand/foot warmers?) to set into the boxes with the eggs. They dont generate alot of heat, but enough and last for 8 hours or therebouts, maybe that will help, maybe it wont.

Lastly - Make them pay to have the eggs shipped Express 2 Day Delivery. If they want your eggs, they'll pay for them

and guarentee the delivery will not be over a weekend or have them set for any great length of time.

I did not read every post, but my 2 cents,
If I order eggs, one thing I always do is inform my PO and ask them to hold them and I go pick them up.
Why, did this person not do this, especially given that it was cold out.
I think some of the responsibility for the frozen issue is on the buyer.

My PO won't hold anything but chicks, but if you know your getting eggs watch for them, its just common cents, the only why they could have froze was if they were left out side for an extended time. which is the buyers fault.

If they won't hold them if they are addressed to your home address, you could do what I have done in the past. Address them as follows:

Your Name
General Delivery
Post office
City, State Zip

I also have friend that works at the post office near my work. Sometimes I have eggs go to her. They are addressed:

My Name C/O
Postal employe's name
Post office
City State zip

I've had really bad luck as a buyer on eBay, but I've never threatened a bad review! Being polite does wonders. I've talked to sellers about issues, and even though it was excluded in their return policy, they still let me. I believe it was because I was polite. If I were you, as soon as I read this

Actually USE a Flat Rate Priority Mail Box that you can get for FREE at your Post Office.

My mind would be made up to refuse. It's very rude and sarcastic. You have clearly stated your policy. You DO NOT have to give her her money back because she would have shipped it different. You shipped it as you stated you would!

If you do decide to refund the money, I would not refund the shipping, and would not send replacements. (I would also be reporting her email, but that's just me)

Anyway, I hope it turns out okay!
