Buying peafowl eggs on ebay/BYC:The good, Bad and scammer avoidance

I am just now going through a problem with eggs I have gotten off of Ebay. Last year I got four pea eggs from Ebay, they were packaged nicely, but none hatched. This year I tried another person's eggs, she has turkeys too so I got 2 pea eggs and 4 turkeys. She said she wanted to check her fertility first so she wouldn't be able to send them right away. That was okay with me. After though a few weeks, well, maybe a month and a half, I didn't hear from her. I emailed through Ebay and haven't heard back. So I am now trying to figure out what the next step is. Don't think I will order off Ebay after this.

You can open up a dispute with Ebay. But I would do it very soon because I think there may be a time limit for filing a claim. Buying shipped eggs is always a gamble. You can buy them from the best breeders or just anyone and the results will vary. I had very good luck last year with peafowl and pheasants. This year I have no luck at all.

Good handling by the post office makes all the difference.

won 8 eggs and seller sent 9..all arrived in great condition (none broken) seller did her part

we have 7 seven growing very nicely still

, 1 quite early on and one had no development at all, got a couple wild eastern eggs incubating with them just for brooder mates if needed. couple chicken eggs timed right so they can teach the others the ropes to life..

however 3 of the 7 that are still growing have some slight air cell damage, this is not the sellers fault, those 3 may still hatch..the rest is up to us now, so if we can get two to hatch we will be very pleased with our results, but the more the merrier it will be...

Some seller don't store eggs proper, or ship old eggs. Now some eggs don't take shipping as good either, know peafowl eggs are not that easy to hatch anyway, but shipping is real hard on them. Then never know what happens thru USPS(xray) Now I believe you should never get broken eggs, I ship hundreds every year , none broken in 4 years. I do add an extra because of low hatch rate on shipped eggs ,not for broken eggs.

Guinea eggs do great shipped, pheasant , quail ,chickens not hurt that bad 60% or better.

Even if the egg doesn't form , that doesn't mean you receive non fertile eggs.

I have shipped eggs from the same pen, to differnt area, some do ok with hatching ,others not. could be the person hatching or the USPS Carrier.

As a seller of hatching eggs, all I can do is ship fresh eggs, that have been store proper (cool area, turned daily,no older than 2 days). Pack properly so none are broken. After that it all up to how the USPS handel them, and how well they are incubated.

Shipped eggs are always a RISK, but sometime cheaper than having birds shipped.

this is a little different.... the eggs were never received????
not a matter of bad hatch rate, or infertile eggs.... a matter of no eggs at all.....

people were discussing a certain seller who didn't even own birds, was buying eggs and selling htem before he even had the eggs in his hands... i'm hoping you didn't get taken by that person....

i'll cross my fingers that your eggs make it to you fresh and fertile and you get some to hatch....

Me too!
I have known Lucinda for 2 years now, finally got 3 Java and 2 white peafowl eggs off her last year, cost a fortune, BUT I ended up with 2 java and 2 whites out of the 5 eggs, the other java started, but the air cell was damaged a little too much.
She's very nice and we trade a lot too, good ebayer!

I got eggs from Lucinda last year as well. They were the very last batch the hens laid, and I think the season was at the very end. Only 1/8 started developing but that one hatched and Lucinda was very nice re more eggs this year. I may not need to get any form her this year as I have a bunch of eggs right now, but would certainly buy from her again in a heartbeat.
