BYC Café

The mice are coming back to the run. One of these days I'll block them but in the meantime, I get a perverse pleasure in trapping them.
I shoved a pistachio so tightly into the trigger last night that it was still fully in there with the dead mouse snapped cleanly at the base of the skull. I just removed it and reset the same trap.
YES!
The jammed nut technique works best I have found.
I sometimes wonder tho if the smell of death, especially if there's blood, deters others from going to that trap.

We'll find out. There was no blood at least. It was a very clean, fast kill.

Good morning and thanks for the hot coffee!
It has been a very busy few days for sure. Too much eating out,
even though it was good food, too much!
I have a couple of days to regroup and get some stuff done.
Pics of slash piles  , finish the chicken sun room, get sand for the bath area, clean up the ice from the last snow storm, ...
DH is still sleeping and that is how he is dealing with the chaos.
Enjoy the day, Cafe!

I did the preliminary winterization of the pond. Removed 8 live, lethargic, cold frogs from the pond: 3 from the priming pot, 1 from the skimmer, the rest netted off the bottom. One was the size of my hand. A 9th came out of the settlement tank in pieces. 🤮 That's my least favorite part of ponding.

Good Morning. I am exhausted already, I would love to have the rest of the day lazy out doing nothing.
We had a serious amount of rain all day yesterday and my chickens love it, they stood in the rain digging and eating earth worms and whatever else. This morning potholes everywhere in my muddy chicken runs.
Treatment for preventative chicken internal parasites infestation started this morning - the whole lots of it, apple cider vinegar in drinking water, garlic, cayenne pepper in their food for a week, then 14 days later, some chickens might need worm medication..etc... and so repeat treatment in another 14 days.
In addition to the treatment of internal parasites, the rain also cause infestation of mosquitoes, so that need to be treated until the whole place all dried out. This could go on to Christmas.
I feel I need a super strong coffee to get through the day. Making a super strong coffee now.
I need a strong coffee, butter croissant and a high stack of pancakes top with cream fresh and maple syrup. It is a dream breakfast. I am too exhausted to drive out to get all that.
How did it go, were you able to get it all done?

Good morning Café!

Coffee is ready and I made an apple pie to go with it.

As there will be not therapy whatsoever over the weekend, DH came home for a few hours yesterday, and already the improvement is noticeable after the first week. They even started him on speech and breathing therapy again! Yayyy!

It is getting really cold here in Germany with strong winds and lots of rain/sleet/hail. I will have to get on with chicken winter preparations and install the water heaters etc.

Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

Today was supposed to be sunny and "the nicest day of the week." They subtracted most of the sunshine, and have rain moving in by end of day.

I think this part of the year is my least favorite. The days are still getting shorter, the weather is getting colder, and there's more rain in the forecast. With the possibility of it being/turning to sleet, freezing rain, or snow.

33 days until the Solstice. I try not to think, yeah, and 66 days until the hours/minutes of daylight are as long as they are now.

What happened with SinpleJenn's flock just has me in a real funk, I guess. I'll shut up now.
