Two words should suffice.... Hot Flashes

Yes that is very possibe

first year, should use flathead minnows........they are slow swimming minnows good for first year forage for the bass.  Then hopefully during that time, cover grasses will grow to allow the blue gills some safety.

personally, I wouldn't stock bluegill the first year.  I'd wait and see what mother nature brought me in terms of bluegill.......their eggs get carried pond to pond, buy egrets and herons.  same with frogs.

it's also a good idea to stock a few sterile grass carp, so the pond doesn't get over grown with grasses.  a one acre pond is good size, and should produce bunches of edible fish.  heck, I'd throw some channel, or blue cats off in there also.

We do have catfish in the big dam. But I am very picky about how my catfish is prepared, truth be told I do not like catfish very much. But the big dam gets water from an old stream that runs with spring rains so it is nearly impossible to clean out and the carp have infested it terribly.

ugh, the bane of a stocked pond........lol sounds like you need a concrete divider with a screened inlet, and a valve, so you can let water in when you want.

Lol that would be lovely, and definitely in the maybe someday pile. I will work on the little pond if I am allowed and have the time. It has always been DH dream to make limestone rock bridges through his creeks to clean and clear the water, one over that stream would be great too
We are fully organic but our neighbors up stream are not, makes allowing the cattle to drink from the pond impossible. So filtering has benefits beyond the fish. But it is something I would have to push through because DH will drag his feet.

Hi all you coffee lovers (and tea lovers). It's early and so far everyone is sleeping in this a.m. I've already been out to check on my feathered babies. I'm down to 11 black sex-link roos, and 5 "Reds" pullets, that are about 6 weeks old. At this point they look like miniature chickens in all their glory. They have just began free-ranging during the daytime. I also have 5 little chicks maybe 3 weeks old. They are 3 different breeds but I don't know what. They were sold as "Heavies" but I'm betting 2 are bantams of some type or the others are "Giants" or probably both is true, lol.

I have a bunch of children 4 grown and 3 still at home, along with one of my grandsons. I call them the "Wildbunch" after all the ones still at home are all boys, lol. Our house is the loudest so its good we moved to the country. With 3 ponds on the property and woods surrounding it the Wildbunch spends a lot of time outside fishing or exploring. We attend church with a loving church family. My husband works at a major poultry plant. Its a tough job but it pays the bills.
