Yeah, pouty old guy from the city. Luckily, MIL was raised on an old dairy farm. Her and her mother treated it like a big social event. They were a blast!

Butchering time on the farm used to be exactly that - 'a big social event'.

My mother is always willing to come out and help. My FIL usually shows up after and starts taking all the feet and hearts he wants :
I can understand how it would be a very social time. The killing is unpleasant, but after that everyone stands around a table and works their chicken, giving us lots of time to talk. It is nice to be able to catch up.

I cooked up feet for Grandma . She was so happy! Said feet are the best part, a darn shame that they aren't sold in the stores.

I'm sorry but i just cant get over the feet thing, seems so gross to me. Especially after seeing what my girls walk in. :

The dog would love it though lol

Yes I agree. But back when people often starved I can see why they used every part of the bird. I am very unlikely to starve at this point so I will just give the feet to FIL and the animals

Oh yeah, i didnt even really think of that. I can definitely see if you were going to starve and/or didnt have much money, during the depression, etc. But that somebody just said about boiling them up for the grandma to munch on,that grosses me out LOL i agree, I'd toss it to the animals or donate it before I'd eat it. Maybe toss it in a soup or broth. But would never just munch it. Also i just realized, the scales and texture would probably gross me out too.

They do sell pig feet at our grocery store and i accidentally stumbled upon it when i was looking for meat and organs for the dog and almost threw up LOL okay, i wasnt physically close to throwing up but i wanted to.
