Well, it's almost seen as a mocking, since a lot of Americans won't even know who Saint Patrick was, and will just see it as an excuse to drink excessive amounts of alcohol and dress up like a leprechaun.
so now a person has to be Catholic, and Irish to celebrate?

oh lsky, do go on......

Their words, not mine. I don't celebrate Saint Patrick's day, or any of the other holidays so I couldn't care less what you celebrate lol. Really most holidays are just an excuse to get drunk and eat food are they not? Christmas for example; how many people actually celebrate it as the birth of Christ?

I do.

I think the only British holiday we celebrate, is 4th of July.

lol

I wonder what possible harm to the Irish, that Americans celebrate a day in a country not in Ireland?

That is sad, as it really isn't the intent. And while all the media shows is all the drunks, the festivals always have lots of traditional music, art, food, too.

More so in America yes, but here not so much. We celebrate winter solstice instead in my family :)

People like to complain, we celebrated the saints when I was in primary school and I didn't even know who half of them were.

You would be surprised. Yes there are the non secular that celebrate holidays like Christmas without Christ, but most of us are actually Christian, and Christ is central in our lives. This is true of almost everyone I know. Now I admit I am in a heavily Christian area, but I am far from alone. I think media has influenced your view of us.
