BYC Café

Our girls love standing in the smaller cat litter type things so I picked up a kiddie pool for them, made steps going up & into the pool, put it under a tarp tent to stay cool and filled it with about 2" of water. They refuse to go in, they just use it as a humongous waterer. They still line up to stand in the small cat litter thingie.

Kids!

Oh YES, counting on seeing Jurassic World this weekend. It's funny no reviews for it yet -sometimes that is a bad thing. They don't want negative reviews BEFORE the movie comes out.

BTW my brain ice cream clock malfunctioned and caused me to eat 2 - 12 packs of mini snickers ice cream . That's unusual even for me. So no ice cream till the grocery story later in the week.

I did make brownies though - waiting for them to cool. Actually I made them as a thank you to the guy next door who did bring me barbequed chicken drumsticks last week. Hopefully I will get to bring it to him before it meets with great misfortune - like they accidentally get eaten and I have to try again.

You know I've been on BYC so long already, I guess the brownies must be completely cooled off and ready for slicing. Think I'll go check

Do they actually go in? Hmm I'll have to try.

YES they do they love them in the heat! I keep them all over the yard and under their favorite trees and bushes where they dust bathe I fill the dust holes with water when it cools down so they can dig up some cool dirt the next day.

I also keep buckets for emergencies if I need to cool someone fast. I keep it filled to about neck level and will sink the whole chicken in it if I have to I lost one of my favorite ladies to heat stroke (Brahma named Hillory) and her litter mate stays alone most of the time now.

Will have to find some kitty litter bins. Hit 100° today...least tomorrow it's going down to 90.

I had a little ziploc sandwich container I kept topping up with ice and water. The girls preferred that to their waterer I think!

Scott it's Ms DD, who would have thunk I'd still be single at the age of 67+ 11 mos. I didn't cheat the neighbor. I did make the brownies in a bigger pan = more brownies but not as tall. This way I could give him two layers back on his plate. eat a couple one that fell apart when slicing, and still have 6 tiny ones for the bus driver on grocery day, that I put in freezer.

Of course the bus driver has only two words for us when he pulls up at the destination - He opens the door and bellows 'GET OUT!!!" I'm thinking maybe he doesn't deserve leftover brownies. Why reward bad behavior - right? Odds are not good he will see even brownie crumbs by Thursday.

PS Brownies may last in case we have the new part time driver instead.......

Here's hoping diva! How sad, to be so miserable while on the job. Have fun with it, I say!

Sigh. Hubs is not impressed with my (stolen) idea of kitty litter boxes. "They'll be fine!"

How long have we been together and he hasn't realized I get overly concerned for the welfare of my critters? I mean the girls were too hot today in my opinion...quite a few were open beak panting...some pretty hard. (Yes I was chasing around with a water bottle to mist a bit too)

The heat worries me about our birds too. It's been over 90 here already and the humidity is awful. About a week ago, DH built an addition to their run so about 1/2 of it is under shade...it took their run from 180 to 300 feet. They love it!

DH likes the chickens but mainly I think he wanted to do the project just because it gave him a chance to get out hammer, nails, saws, etc. The man loves his tools!
