Theres a few peeps that say they built some feeders that don't allow the birds to waste as much as regular feeders, idk, I've been feeding quail for years and just go with the fact, they are going to waste feed.
I feed all my birds 24% protein feed. Too high of protein and you'll 'burn them up', too little and they don't reproduce very well, alot of nutritional defects will occur, weak chicks etc. ;)
I wouldn't start out with a lot of birds, get a handle on how to hatch, raise and maintain a small number before going crazy off the chain on getting every color you can find. :old

Thanks for the info!! Very helpful!! I will look for a feed with that percentage.

I did find this earlier. Would something like this work?

And that is a good point, thank you!! I may find I don’t like them and then would have a ton of birds to get rid of. I don’t think that will happen as they seem like very cool birds and I have wanted them for a while but it could or something else plus of course more are more expensive. I will try to contain myself aha but it is hard because I don’t know that I really want to start with boring colors or the jumbo meat ones per se but there’s so many colors that it’s hard to choose one or two to start with hah but I have a friend that may be able to send me some eggs if I get an incubator and cage set up/built so I may start with that to begin with. Disappointing slightly but at least it is free and also not really disappointing because a quail is a quail and they are all cute and they all lay eggs lol well, except the males :p but I may order some celadons or maybe like one rare color or something later on but you have a good point about seeing if I like them/starting slower first and not going off the chain lol I will try to contain myself. But I have a feeling I may end up with a serious hatching addiction.

I haven't ever seen it at our TSC but maybe it is at the other local feed store or at a different TSC. I’ll look for it. Thanks.

That's only a 5lbs. bag, that wouldn't feed but about 10 of my birds for a day.

I've tried out a few feeder types. I still got waste. Even if the chickens couldn't scratch the feed out they would pick it out and throw it on the floor.
I've come to the same conclusion as you, there will always be some waste.:)

They're sweet little things. I can hear them chatting to each other when I'm outside. They remind me of crickets. :love

Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is on the stove.
Above freezing overnight and blue skies and sunshine atm.
It's a general strike day here so not a lot going on I would think. I might go into the village to see just how many of the 'faithful' are prepared to lose a days money for the cause.:p

Thanks for the coffee Shad. What is a general strike day? I get the idea but does everone generally participate and why are the people on strike?
