BYC Café

Good morning, Café. I think that I overdid in the heat yesterday. Got a little bit sick and even took a nap - that's something I never do. Went to see a community production of 'Oklahoma' last night. There were excellent voices and it was an excellent production. Last night I bought a pinto mare from a deceased friend - it was a dream folk. It's been a recurring dream, but I believe the traveling salesman from "Oklahoma" was going to buy her, and I didn't want him to have her. Scary the stuff that hides in my id.

Hmmmm… That's a very unusual reoccurring dream. Tell me about your childhood.

I decided to jump in feet first and let Barb out.

Astrid came in to meet the chicks first. Astrid and Barb are BFFs. Astrid is third in command and the broody I just broke a few days ago. She laid her first egg today after snapping out of it.

I haven't seen Daddy bond with them yet but she's only just had them out.

One of the chicks fell over and rolled in the dust bath and now has peat moss stuck to it's back.

Draco, my big Delaware, wandered right up to the chicks, gave one a curious peck. The chick then jumped up and pecked her in the face. Made her jump back. The chick then stared her down and she left!! I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. Barb just watched.
Zero signs of aggression from anyone in the flock. They are all very curious though.

I've spread medicated chick mash all over the rocks on the apron around the run. I also put a glass loaf pan of chick mash in the broody crate so only the chicks can reach that. I'll have to monitor the family and make sure Barb is giving them the right things to eat. I started a thread, concerned about her feeding them the whole grains I feed the rest of the flock but a large portion of their feed mix IS Flock Raiser. I'm hoping she continues to do great with them.

Good afternoon cafe. I made a fresh pot of coffee if anyone needs a jolt.

Got the coops cleaned and moved several wheelbarrow loads of rocks today. I'm going to check out this little place around the corner and see what they charge for hay and if they'll deliver. I need to refill the coop yard and it makes great mulch in the garden. Fall will be here and planting can begin again soon :yesss:
Well, I came in to cool off but igor waits...we're re-staking a mesquite tree before he wants to drag me grocery shopping. Such a task master

I had a very long period in my life when I didn't dream. or at least I could not remember doing so. I found it rather disturbing. I had some crap knock the wind out of me just before and I couldn't get my head around dealing with it in the conscious part of my brain. Eventually as most crap does, it got washed away by time but not dreaming I found pretty weird.

Did major clean on the main coop this is once a year dig down little joe tiller about two feet down all goes out Son was at the pop door shovel into the garden cart there Son dumps it over the huge chickens yard up over long grass 15 carts later actually more like 12 then two bales of shavings later coops smells lot's better .. darn new peeps sex links and EE cockerel then a few marans one cockerel may be more wait and see where having a ball going digging eating bugs afraid of tiller no way yelling let me turn it off first

I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday... even IM and NFC who will be covered in salt when they get home!

Thanks Dobie, today was ok...for a day in the salt mines

Well guess what? I went to get my computer up and running so I'd be ready for the day. Pulled up my schedule...I'd scheduled today off as a random SURPRISE! you deserve a break today. I'm ecstatic!

I have some things to get done in the coops and I can get out there this morning and still have time to go to the park tomorrow with the pups :yesss:

Not to worry, I'll be covered in my own salt when I'm done...it's already warm out there. I'd still rather go out there and sweat than sit on the phone listening to people whine all day :)

Great, leaving me all alone in the salt mines :hit
