People around here hunt and eat cougar. I always thought it would be gross. Bear is good if they have been gorging themselves on grass and berries. If you get them after a big salmon run they taste nasty. Mostly I like beat made into sausage or ground meat for spaghetti or chili.

I have never tried bear, and I always thought cougar (that is another name for mountain lion right?) were protected? Maybe just here...I completely get the different meals, mean different taste to the meat. We winter our cattle on turnips. It works great and the cows love it, but we cannot butcher them then until spring. Gives the meat a very strong turnip like flavor.

Yes, cougar is mountain lion. We have a hunting season for them here. You're not allowed to hunt them with dogs anymore though.
Turnip flavored ribeye? Now that would be interesting!
