Very interesting stuff! I've used the Feathersite before but not looked at the others.

About the guys that got heated about women keeping chickens...is it mainly a man's job to do that in your part of Spain?
It does seem to be almost all men where I am, or at least they say they're the ones that do it.;)
I think many of the enthusiasts are from generations where cock fighting and the breeding of them was a mainly male activity; I won't call it a sport. Most of the club are very proud of their roosters. I have a suspicion that a couple of the younger guys let someone else do most of the cleaning and feeding, but the old boys, they do the lot.
There isn't the same cuddly pet mentality with this lot. They handle their birds, but don't tame them if you get what I mean. There is considerable pride in being able to pick up and handle what are often semi feral roosters.
You know, men.:D
I get to see scars from time to time which the men are very proud of from times when it all went wrong.

Afternoon pot is brewed. I've had a good day - got my flu shot, truck inspected, replaced door knob/lock on back door, and worked 4 dogs.

On a sad note my garden spider has died. :( All summer she has maintained a web between two of my tomato plants. I first met her when picking tomatoes. I felt something bumping into my forehead. I was against her web, and she was on the other side bouncing the web back and forth against me. I guess she figured that I was too big to eat. Two days ago she moved to the South side of the house, and last night she laid an egg sack and died. I've enjoyed her all summer.

Is the egg sack safe?
Is that what the females of the species do, lay their eggs and die?

Great minds on the same track - I was just wondering about the safety. I don't know if they hatch now or wait until spring. I'll monitor, and if they do not hatch, I will move them to a safer location to overwinter. My gut guess is that they prepare for the next generation and then die, but I am not certain about that.

If you can identify the species there might be some information on their breeding cycle and habitat on the web somewhere. Be interesting to know.

Black and yellow garden spider - the female dies shortly after laying her eggs, and the spiderlings do not hatch until spring. I'll be moving the egg sack to a safer location.

Well I did finally get to rent the Whacker Plate and my nephew helped get if off and back on the truck. I spread just over a ton of pea stone. I thought I had plenty. I'm short about 5 wheelbarrow loads or about 1/2 ton. I'll have to get to the gravel pit first thing in the morning to have enough time to get the rest of the stone in, smoothed out washed and dried in time to put the Gravel Lok on it. This project has just not gone my way at all.

I also forgot to mention that I've received a verbal job offer for the Binghamton i3 site working in the SureScan division as an engineer. Still no definition of hours and wage. They know I cannot work full-time because I need to care for DH.
