I need to accelerate Ruffles and her chicks return to their tribes coop. Ruffles has some tendon damage in her left leg due to sitting and hatching on a nest with a hard floor. This morning she sort of staggered out of the maternity unit with her chick suffering from cramp! It took a few minutes of massage to get her rolling. She walks much better once she's perched on a roost for a few nights.
The important stuff for the day is done. I'm going to do one of those senior tasks today and sit out in the autumn sun, doubtless surround by chickens, and shell a 12 litre bucket full of walnuts I've collected.

For @Shadrach : the girls view today.
Gusting to 30+ ks from the north.
The girls coop is open to the east but it is rare for us to get a direct easterly.

Beautiful view, there are a lot of people that would pay dearly to have a view from their homes like that!

I have mornings like Ruffles...takes a bit of moving to get things properly lined up and working smoothly.

Thanks for the coffee!

P.S. I think your senior task sounds like a good way to spend an autumn day.

Good morning, Cafe and thanks for the coffee.

@Ribh , I would gladly move in with your chickens to wake up to a view like that.

@Shadrach , that isn't a senior task. That is just a very nicely planned day.

@sourland , around here it's me waiting for DH to get ready. Of course the AD has slowed him down but I've always done the waiting for him. Have fun at the game and good luck to the boys.

Nothing particularly earth shattering planned here today. Do some shopping and start working on the automatic door for the run to the pen. I plan to install a receptacle on the exterior coop wall so I can plug in some heated dog bowls for water and fermented feed.
I also want a flood light for the run that is powered with a timer switch so it will shut off after a fixed time... say after the sun rises. I have to fill the feed troughs in the dark before I go to work and I like to clean the poop boards first thing after the birds come off the roost before they have time to really trample the poop into the sand/PDZ so that means they all have to come out to the run before sun up during winter. Hence, I need a light that stays on until after sunrise.
