A few reasons.
I'm not keen on making cows pregnant in order to be able to milk them.
There is an intensive but rather antiquated milk farm close by and I've spent enough time there (they have chickens) to know that the setup there is what I would consider as cruel so I don't like that.
I should for health reasons eat less dairy produce. However, that's quite difficult for me given I don't eat much meat...basically it means proper cooking and I don't like that either!
I'm going to check the alternatives out.
I don't know how keen you are on almonds, but I used to make my own almond milk all of the time. I thought it was really good. I don't think it tastes like milk, but possibly a suitable substitute in hot chocolate? I didn't like the store bought stuff, though.

So did you grind almonds to do this Meg?
I would soak a cup of almonds overnight, drain them, then grind them in the blender with 3 cups of water. At first I added dates to sweeten, but decided it didn't need it. I'd add a dash of cinnamon, though. Started straining with cheese cloth, then went to a fine mesh sieve because the grittiness didn't bother me. Mostly used it in smoothies and overnight oats, anyway :)

pretty certain I will have to give it a try never had it before I was born with Raw milk being fed to me but always cows guess I am still there in allot of ways
If you want to drink it, or use it in drinks, I'd recommend the cheesecloth. And when it's dripped off you can dry out the remnants on low heat in the oven for almond "flour".

Thanks for posting this! I'm plant based so always looking for new things to try. I drink almond milk a lot, I like almond breeze brand but I always get unsweetened. If I need sweetness I add a bit of agave.
