What sort of woodworker was your dad Debby?
One of the good things about beech is it takes oil well so you can seal it. That makes it washable. The other hardwoods I use here need to be waxed and oiled and they still swell with high humidity.

He made everything from toys to furniture. I only have a few of his things, but here they are:
A few of his bowls (the large one he made for my grandmother, when she died it came to me)

He made a lot of sets of candlestick holders:

This last piece he made from a scrap of walnut and put in an old metal spike. I hung my spurs on it.

I also have the 2 footstools he made for me back in the '70s. Couldn't get a picture of those, the cats kept sitting on them

He's made some good things. From the above it seems like he was a wood turner (?)
I haven't done much of that. I'm pleased you value them. I've given a couple of people lamps over the years. The work done to them is generally good quality and if you like the design, they look very attractive if taken care of. I like to think people will take care of them and have them on display.

Wood has a beauty and warmth to it when it's well cared for. My mom has some of the bigger pieces he made (marble-inlaid coffee table, bedside tables, big lamps, etc). My things are small but they're portable. Which is nice since we seem to move every 3-4 years  I've seen pictures of some of your lamps Shad, they're beautiful.

I sold one to a women I know a while ago. I was so pleased and very flattered when I visited her house and she had the lamp lit from two spotlights when it wasn't on.
