Here is Lucy's first egg after her molt. I took a picture of it next to that inky winky fart egg from yesterday. It's still a huge egg for her to be starting back up with. It weighed 80g.

Pretty egg. Looks like it's been simonized.

I hope they make it. Do you think Mag will step up and help them if her elevator drops another floor?
I don't know DL. It's the junior roosters job to keep an eye on pullets and cockerels. I'm not sure if the duty is through self interest or that's just the way chickens work.

I didn't have any eggs for about a month and a half, and then started getting 1 to 3 eggs a day. Yesterday I got a 4th, but the shell was wonky and broken so I tossed it out in the forest.
yes, they get slower at three years old.
I need to switch some over this year to new hens
I always add 3 chicks each year to keep the eggs coming in. There are only two of us here and 3 hens would give us all the eggs we need, but I have 12 because this method adds, but I never intentionally subtract. :D

That is the perfect plan! I have to be more strict than that since I have a limit of 6 hens here

6 hens is certainly enough, and if they are dual purpose then my system would work for you too, if you rotate them into the freezer. I have found that I don't like chicken that I have raised, so they may as well live out their lives. I have the space and no restrictions.
