That part works but getting up to 12 would get me busted! The owner of the rental next to us turned me in when I was over the limit...I had to process the extras in 10 days which was hard to do6 hens is certainly enough, and if they are dual purpose then my system would work for you too, if you rotate them into the freezer. I have found that I don't like chicken that I have raised, so they may as well live out their lives. I have the space and no restrictions.
So, if it were me that could only have 6, I would add 2 each year starting this year.
