That's one of the reasons I keep the rugs that were in the family house when I was a child.
One of my relatives acquired these rugs and were going to burn them because they were dirty.
It took me a while to clean them but I look at them from time to time and think of all the people who walked across them.
Unfortunately having the chickens in the house means they don't spend much time on the floor any more. Oh well, I suppose it's a small sacrifice.![]()
When my kids were little, I was a member of a nursing mother support group. One of the things that came up at a meeting was, what do you do about little people and valuable (but fragile) items? My advice was, pack it up, and put it somewhere safe. That way, you can "visit" that heirloom if you want to go down memory lane, but if you leave it out, by the time the child is old enough to understand that "this is very special, but it's also fragile, so we must be very careful how we handle it," it could already have been broken, and you wouldn't want that between you and your child. Peace of mind is all about finding what works for you.
