That's a great find!
My friend and his wife who own a boarding facility 1 mile from my house always keeps my dogs when I make guide dog runs. He loves my dogs, handles them in agility and they adore him. I will miss that convenience and peace of mind after the move. Currently, I refuse to leave my dogs with anyone but him. Not sure how that's going to resolve itself. I worry about that.
I'm the same way with my dogs. I'm going to try a local kennel when I go on vacation this year. They have very good reviews and they have indoor outdoor kennels for the dogs so I really like that idea.

I have a dog who has epilepsy and requires special food and special requirements, but I feel comfortable because this place will allow me to pre-measure her food for her.

We always recommend a day care visit first to give the dog a short, positive experience and remind them that "Yes.....your people are coming back!" For dogs who have never boarded it seems to help them.

And pre-measuring is welcomed by those of us who work in the kennel.....no need to look up/double check amount.... it's quick, easy and accurate.

My dogs have always boarded because we go on a family vacation every year. My puggle is used to it, but the place that I put her 2 years ago it was a bad experience for her. She had been to that place before and I'm not sure if it was the people that were working there or what was going on, but my dog usually does not act the way they were saying.

She was biting the employees, she wouldn't go outside for them, she wouldn't eat for them, and it was just a mess.

Needless to say I had the worst vacation ever because all I was doing was worrying about my dog.

I had such a bad anxiety about bringing her to the kennel again that I didn't even go to family vacation last year.

I brought breakfast. :D

Scrambled eggs, sautéed spinach, cranberry bagel, and green tea. :D

Also have blueberry bagels and can make pancakes, French toast, waffles, sausage, whatever. :D

Dog often behave differently while being boarded. Sometimes I believe it's the close proximity of other (sometimes loud, barking, big) dogs that stresses them out. I can't tell you how many dozens of dogs come in with their favorite bed they've had forever....and shred it the first night!! It's about their stress level. Dimmer lights, background music, a firm schedule of feeding and in and outs as well as people who understand how to use their body language to reassure dogs and not put pressure on them will all help. Just because someone owns a boarding facility or works at one doesn't necessarily mean they are true "dog people".

Very true!! And sometimes if it’s a family type one or whatever, they may have their kids helping out who are not very invested or interested at all

Yikes!!! I would not want anyone's kids interacting with my dogs without me there. We would never allow kids in the kennel! Some dogs are not comfortable around kids....some kids are not comfortable around dogs....so many very bad things can happen! no no no no....
sorry...but I feel strongly about that. Not all kids are respectful of dogs.

We have used that facility several times and my dog had never had an issue. It's actually part of the veterinary office.

There was only one person out of the five that were working there that she would allow to touch her.

My dog is 10 years old and I know her very well and She only gets aggressive like that if somebody hurts her. That's what made me want to go to a different facility this year. It doesn't have to be that they maliciously did it or purposefully did it, but somehow she got hurt.

They also put her outside with other dogs, which I specifically told them not to do because she is an alpha female and she starts acting aggressive and I didn't want her to set off anyone's dog. She had ripped out a toenail completely and they actually had to do surgery on her... It was just a complete bad experience.

I have always boarded my dogs and I have never had issues until that time. The gentleman who she allowed to take care of her was very apologetic about the entire experience.

I asked them why they give me the sheet to fill out if they're not going to follow what I say.

The kennel that I'm going to bring them to this year seems to have their stuff together. The woman was very nice when she explained everything to me and she asked if any of the dogs were food aggressive and I gave her a little bit of a rundown about how my beagle likes to eat everyone's food, but it's not done aggressively it's just because she's a beagle. The woman understood and she said if the beagle starts acting like that she would take care of it. They are going to let my four dogs have play time in the fenced in area by themselves so that it's not anyone else's pack being joined in. They also will send you daily messages about how well your dog is doing and you can get little extras for them while they're there.

That sounds good. Will they be kenneled together? When I leave my three they stay in the same kennel (8 x 10)
