Rabies is every year.
There is a 3 year for cats as well. The only reason I don't get the others besides heartworm(*) is that the cats NEVER go outside the house and there isn't even a screen door where they could come nose to nose with another animal.

* heartworm here would be nearly impossible as there is never a continuous 45 day period when the temp doesn't go below 57°F. If an animal here is found to have heartworm, odds are it "snow birded" in a much warmer place.

"The lifecycle of the nematode involves six stages, and a dog can get infected with heartworm only if two of these stages are fully completed inside the body of the mosquito, and those stages can only be completed inside the body of the mosquito if the temperature stays above 57 degrees for at least 45 days straight, both day and night. If the temperature drops below 57 degrees even once during that 45-day period, the lifecycle of the nematode is broken, and heartworm cannot be transmitted to your dog."

I'm the same way with my cat. He is too chicken to go out 😂 he gets his rabies and that's it. He doesn't come in contact with any animals that are outside besides my dogs who have all the vaccinations that they need.

He was feral until a vet trapped him in a live trap from a barn then he gave him all the blood work, neuter, and vaccinations that he needed. He gave him to me for free because I was the only person he never tried to kill 😂 he actually curled up in my lap and we've been heat buds ever since.

Because my line broke and the officer taped it saying "some meds is better than no meds" they should've just sent me to my hospital to begin with but it was over an hour and a half away. I could've made it with my taped line but they didn't believe me.

They were worried about infection but that would be better than disconnecting the meds that keep me living and breathing.

Oh wow that’s scary!

Rabies vaccination is required by law in almost every state.

That makes sense.

I think I’ve heard about that but I thought I read that for some reason the 3 year one wasn’t safe for cats?? Idk if that’s true but it said for dogs it was but for cats it wasn’t and when we first got her first shots they just gave her the 1 year and I never questioned it. I don’t mind it cause I like getting her checked up every year anyway. Though it does add up haha we had a different vet than usual this most recent time and while she was really through and I liked that, she wanted to do full bloodwork and at first I thought it was a good idea as she’d never had it before until the tech went over the pricing with me.... :lau I was like yeah we’ll wait :lau

And yeah I think it’s impossible here too but they say mosquitoes can get inside the house and live inside a while.

I probably could get away with only getting Luna her rabies but she’s not too expensive so I don’t mind it haha

They always give 1 year for the first rabies shot

Jack is pretty chill and doesn't require much maintenance. Just an annual and a rabies. I haven't had many issues with him at all besides hairballs 🤮 I bought him expensive food and it seems to help. It's called Call of the Wild. My animals are pretty spoiled 😂 the puggle and Jolene eat completely different food because they can't eat big food chunks 🙄 the beagle will eat anything you put in her bowl 😂
